Kia And Skoda Report Strong Russian Growth

Kia's Russian sales rose to 27,900 vehicles in the first half of 2006, from 9,621 in the same period in 2005, according to local distributor SOKia. The most popular Kia model was the Spectra sedan, which represented around 40% of Kia sales in Russia. IzhAvto, a subsidiary of the SOK Group, began manufacturing the Spectra in Izhevsk in August 2005. The Ceratos and Rio models were the most popular imported models, with 3,311 and 2,643 cars sold. Kia has already exceeded its 2005 sales tally of 24,671 units. The cars are built under licence, without any investment from South Korea's
