MNCs Increase Russian Share
May 2006 | Industry ForecastRussia's new car sales rose 9.4% to 1.52mn units in 2005, according to ASM Holding. However, the market share for Russian branded cars fell from 70.5% in 2004 to 60.4% as the number of imported cars rose sharply by 58% to 450,200 units. BMI estimates that total automotive sales, including commercial vehicles, rose 7.3% to 1.61mn units.The decline in sales of Russian brands is likely to continue in 2006, with BMI predicting a 4.0% fall. Meanwhile, sales of foreign brand cars manufactured in Russia are set to rise by 14.0% with an expansion in production capacity and increased local demand.
