Spanish Ups And Downs
July 2006 | Industry NewsDaimlerChrysler announced last month that it plans to axe around 750 jobs at two of its Spanish plants over the next three years as part of a restructuring plan. The company's Mercedes division will cut 600 jobs at its Vitoria-based plant and 150 in Barcelona. The two plants currently employ 3,400 and 500 people respectively. A spokesperson for Mercedes explained that the job cuts are aimed at improving Mercedes' productivity and competitiveness. The statement added that the cuts would be negotiated with the unions. The news follows the announcement in April that fellow German brand Volkswagen would be relocating production
