EU To Shift Car Tax To Emissions
June 2006 | Legal NewsThe European Parliament has backed a European Commission proposal to scrap car registration tax in favour of a tax on a vehicle's carbon dioxide emissions.The proposal still has to clear the Council of Ministers, which comprises representatives of all the EU's 25 member states. If passed, it will standardise car taxes across the EU and stop governments from charging registration taxes on vehicles bought in other countries.
