According to the Japanese press, Toyota aims to increase global vehicle output by 11% to 9.2mn in 2006, which would make it the world's biggest vehicle manufacturer, ahead of current leader GM. The European market will be crucial to Toyota's goal of becoming the world's leader in automotive production. Toyota is the leading Japanese auto producer on the European market, except in Spain. In Finland, Norway and Greece, it tops the market as the best selling automotive producer. It has a manufacturing presence in France, Portugal and the UK, but is looking eastwards with new plants in Czech Republic, Poland
