Slowdown In The Parts Segment Begins To Take Shape

After the expected 10% year-on-year (y-o-y) growth in the Argentine parts segment in 2011, the country's auto parts trade group Afac expects the segment's growth in 2012 to slow down. The view echoes one of BMI's long-standing concerns about the segment, which we believe is plagued by a lack of foreign investment and insufficient capacity to meet domestic and foreign demand. To add to these woes, the segment also faces the emerging threats of a loss of competitiveness and reduced demand from its major European original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
