Joint EV Agreement Offers Only A Supply-Side Solution
November 2011 | Industry NewsThe signing of an agreement on a joint regulatory framework for the electric vehicle segment between the EU, Japan and the US will help boost carmakers' enthusiasm for developing these vehicles. BMI believes the agreement is another sign of a trend towards increasing harmonisation and standardisation in the EV segment, the development and introduction of which is proving to be an uphill task for governments and carmakers. While we expect such cooperation to help solve some of the supply-side issues related to EVs, we are unconvinced about the agreement's success in terms of promoting the mass acceptability of the vehicles.
