European Brands Turn To China But Government Cracks Down On EVs

France's PSA Peugeot Citroën and Germany's Volkswagen (VW) have both revealed plans to develop and build electric vehicles (EVs) in China through joint ventures (JVs) with local partners. This suggests that major carmakers are not being put off by the Chinese government's attempts to force foreign brands to share their EV technology. However, there may be other risks to EV projects in China, as the government has revealed it will be clamping down on companies that do not achieve sufficient sales volumes of EVs and other fuel-efficient vehicles.
