Toyota Moves To Avoid Yen Strength And Benefit From FTA

Although the free trade agreement (FTA) between the US and South Korea was heralded as a boost to US carmakers, who would gain access to the South Korean market, one of the first companies announcing a plan to take advantage of the agreement is Japan's Toyota Motor. The company's plan to export US-built minivans to South Korea will not only offer advantages in terms of reduced, and eventually eliminated, tariffs, but it will also reduce Toyota's exposure to the impact of a strengthening yen against a weakening won, which is making Japanese exports to South Korea more
