Risks To Autos Recovery Remain, Despite Strong September

US light vehicle sales made a strong comeback in September, up 9.9% year-on-year (y-o-y) to seemingly defy any concerns over consumer sentiment. However, BMI points out that there are several factors behind the month's sales which could mean this is a temporary spike. Issues which dragged on sales in August, such as Hurricane Irene and reduced Japanese supplies, are being addressed and this will have fed into September's sales, while the month also brought its own seasonal variables such as Labor Day spending and incentives to clear inventories for the next model
