Volvo Plans Will Help It Cut Costs

Having reported an operating profit of SEK1.2bn (US$188mn) and a 20.3% year-on-year increase in vehicle sales, to 230,746 units, in H111, Sweden's Volvo Car has unveiled plans to replace three of its older vehicle platforms with a new platform and narrow down its engine range to one new downsized four-cylinder engine. BMI believes that the strategy is primarily aimed at generating economies of scale in its production, thereby helping the company maintain its profitability levels.
