Chinese Investment Gaining Pace

BMI's view that Chinese companies are moving to tap into the growing demand in Africa has once again been supported by news that Chery Automobile will be the next Chinese carmaker to invest in Kenya. Chery follows truck maker Beiqi Foton, which rolled out its first Kenya-built trucks in June 2011. Although BMI has previously reported on the growth of premium car sales on the back of improved economic conditions earlier in the year (see 'Private Buyers Will Boost Premium Segment As Government Cuts Back', June 20 2011), rising inflation and tightening monetary policy could also create a better environment
