Toyota Regroups As Cost Of Japanese Reliance Becomes Clear

Toyota Motor has announced plans to consolidate its units in the north of Japan, which were the hardest hit by the earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku region. However, the aftermath of the disaster is just one of a number of issues facing the country's largest carmaker, as the ever-stronger yen rapidly erodes the competitiveness of its local operations and exports. Toyota's president and CEO, Akio Toyoda, remains adamant that the company stays heavily reliant on Japan for a large proportion of its output, despite this not being cost effective.
