Nissan's Africa Focus Bears Out BMI's Optimism

After rolling out its global strategy to 2016, Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor has emphasised the importance of Africa, where it expects a growing middle class to create opportunities in new vehicle segments. BMI notes this is fast becoming a trend in the sector, after General Motors Company (GM) reported sales growth in sub-Saharan Africa of 38.6% year-on-year (y-o-y) in the first five months of 2011 and says it intends to build on this. Nissan and GM's aggressive push in the region aligns with BMI's expectation for the combined value of Sub-Saharan African GDP to increase dramatically over the next decade,
