Consumer Optimism And Stable Regulatory Environment Keep France's Top-Five Position Intact

A sharp 11% year-on-year (y-o-y) fall in new car sales in France in April 2011, which restricted sales growth for the first four months of 2011 to a muted 4% y-o-y, indicates that the end of the vehicle scrappage scheme is beginning to have an impact on the vehicle market. BMI has accordingly revised down its total vehicle sales forecast for 2011 to a 5% y-o-y fall, led mainly by an projected 7% y-o-y contraction in passenger car sales during the year.
